There were 33,230 San Diego foreclosure homes and 4,978 new foreclosure filings in December 2009. The average sales price of an San Diego County CA home was $434,826 and the average sales price of a foreclosed home was $289,307, a savings of $145,549, according to RealtyTrac.com.

Home price appreciation increased 0.69% in December with 6,137 foreclosures.

San Diego County CA foreclosure activity is based on the total number of properties that receive foreclosure filings - default notice, foreclosure auction notice or repossession notice - each month. Home price appreciation is based on month-over-month percentage change of the Home Price Index. The Home Price Index is calculated from home sales records.

San Diego foreclosures are 0.30% above national statistics and 0.06% below state figures.

San Diego Foreclosure Activity by Month 

San Diego pre-foreclosure activity dropped from 857 in November to 801 in December. The number of bank-owned properties increased from 340 to 485, while auctions decreased from 857 to 801.
