The Carlsbad Home Market
Carlsbad's business community also includes a variety of biomedical, high tech and electronics companies, golf apparel manufacturers, and more than 16 car dealerships. When residents of Carlsbad aren't working and shopping, they can take advantage of recreation spots like the city's two world class golf clubs, a state beach, a historic park, and attractions like Legoland California.
Carlsbad is a diverse city, home to dozens of attractive neighborhoods, from mobile home parks to large estate developments. Individual homes also come in a wide variety of designs and vintages dating as far back as the early 20th century. Carlsbad's oldest neighborhoods, the Village, The Barrio, and Olde Carlsbad feature many historic buildings, and home prices ranging from the multi-millions to entry-level values. Many streets in these areas, most notably Highland Drive, lack sidewalks and street lighting, giving them a distinctly old-fashioned appeal. Dozens of Carlsbad condo developments also date back several decades and showcase vintage Southern California designs.
Another well-known older neighborhood in Carlsbad is La Costa, which features a world-class golf and tennis resort at its center, two top-rated high schools, shopping centers, restaurants, and a 90 room luxury hotel to accomodate golf tourists. This beautiful self-sustaining community was first developed in 1965, and covers 3,500 acres.
Most newer Carlsbad home areas are located in the city's southeast and southwest quadrants, where communities like Ponto, Aviara, La Costa, La Costa Ridge, and Rancho Carrillo feature a wide variety of modern coastal designs. Like other communities in this region, Carlsbad features homes and properties that are much larger than typical oceanside real estate offerings. As a result, Carlsbad boasts a lower population density than similarly sized Southern California cities.
The Carlsbad real estate area is located about 27 miles north of downtown San Diego; the Interstate 5 corridor runs north to south along the city's western edge.
